Custom Error Pages
Take a plunge into website error pages. Find out when they appear and why you need to create your own custom error pages.
If you have checked out loads of Internet sites, you have probably encountered some error message from time to time. An error may take place if the web server cannot process a request (Error 400), if you need to log in in order to see some content and you have not done so (Error 401), if you aren't able to access some page (Error 403) or when a link leads to a file which isn't on the server (Error 404). Receiving this sort of messages can often be aggravating since the pages don't have anything in common with the actual website. That’s why some web hosting providers permit you to set your own error pages which will match the style of your own site and that can have any content that you want - details why the error has taken place, a suggestion what you can do or even some witty remark. This sort of function shall help you keep the visitor on the website irrespective of the error and the reason for it.

Custom Error Pages in Website Hosting
You can set up custom error pages for any of your Internet sites without difficulty when you use any of our
Linux website hosting packages. This can be done via the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, offered with all accounts and once you go there, you could set your customized pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You need to upload the files to your account ahead of time and enter the links to them through the process. This feature could be de-activated anytime and the options you'll be able to select from are a standard page from our system or a default Apache web server page. Tailor-made error pages may be set with an .htaccess file too. The file should be put in the domain or subdomain folder and it should include some system code and links to the pages. If you're not tech-savvy, you could copy the whole content necessary for the file from our Help section.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting
Our
Linux semi-dedicated packages support personalized error pages, so you'll be able to employ this feature for each domain or subdomain hosted in your account. All it takes to do this is to go to the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, to click on the Edit button related to the specific domain/subdomain and to type in the link to the custom file. You can do this separately for each error type. You will be able to switch back to a standard error page anytime if needed and the change shall take effect instantly. An alternative way to achieve the exact same result is to place an .htaccess file in the domain or subdomain folder associated with the web site which you would like to modify and to input several lines of code in it. If you'd like to try this method, you can copy and paste the needed code from our Knowledge Base article on custom error pages, which means that you won't need any programming skills or prior experience.
